Exhibition on Screen: The Artist’s Garden - American Impressionism
The American impressionist movement followed its own path, which over a period of forty years reveals as much about America as a nation as it does about its art as a creative powerhouse. The movement took its lead from French artists such as Renoir and Monet, but the movement also took its lead from French artists such as Degas and Manet. In a country that is fast urbanizing, this is a story that is intricately connected to a love of gardens and a desire to protect natural areas. This mesmerizing film is a feast for the eyes, as it takes viewers to studios, gardens, and other prominent spots across the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The exhibition The Artist's Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement,1887–1920, which was on display at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts before moving on to the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut, was featured in the book The Artist's Garden: American Impressionism. The exhibition was a huge success and sold out quickly.
