Blue Thunder

Blue Thunder is a 1984 ABC television series based on the film of the same name, which featured the Blue Thunder chopper. The series makes extensive use of stock footage from the 1983 film as well as a converted Aérospatiale Gazelle chopper. In the television show, a ground team called "Rolling Thunder" assisted the helicopter. This was a huge support van with a desert camouflage off-road vehicle stored inside. The cast of the television series features James Farentino, Dana Carvey, and former professional American football players Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus. ABC canceled the show because they believed the identical Airwolf on CBS would win the ratings fight. In addition, the series ran on Friday nights at the same time as the CBS soap opera Dallas, and it lost. Before the show was canceled, eleven episodes were produced.
