Degrassi Junior High
The Canadian teen drama series Degrassi Junior High originally aired on CBC Television from 1987 to 1989. The show followed the lives of a group of students at the school's name. Many episodes dealt with tough issues like drug use, child abuse, teen pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce. The series was praised for its sensitive and realistic portrayal of the problems teens face. The majority of the cast were amateurs, which gave the show a more genuine feel. Many of the actors that played in The Kids of Degrassi Street just a few short years earlier also appeared in this series. This includes Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and others. Degrassi Junior High is not an exact sequel to Degrassi High because the names of the characters and their family dynamics were altered. The show's eventual executive producer, Stephen Stohn, was the legal advisor for each episode. Vincent Massey Public School in Etobicoke, Ontario, was used for filming.
