Queer as Folk
The British TV show Queer as Folk from 1999 is about the lives of three gay men who live in Manchester's gay village around Canal Street. Russell T. Davies wrote both Queer as Folk and Queer as Folk 2. As part of Channel 4's 25th birthday celebrations, the first season was shown again on More 4 from October 14 to 18. The Red Production Company made the show Queer as Folk for Channel 4. The name of the show comes from a Northern English dialect phrase, "there's nowt so queer as folk," which means "there's nothing as strange as people." This phrase is a play on the modern English word "queer," which means gay. Davies originally called the show this, but Channel 4 executives suggested that it be called "Queer as Fuck," so that's what it was called for a while before it went back to its original name.
